Fashion: Plaid, Dresses, and Boots
January 27th, 2010 § 8 Comments
Now I’m not one who is obsessively attentive to fashion, however, when I see something that catches my eye lately, I’m going to pay it some attention.
One popular and reoccurring trend: Plaid
Plaid has been around for decades. All types of people have been seen wearing plaid. From lumberjacks to punk rock stars, Indie kids to cute little Asian girls. Plaid can be seen as a skirt, shirt, scarf, socks, hell… just about anything, really and it’s a style that hasn’t been able to die.
From the majority of the spring styles that are coming out lately, plaid appears to be the leading trend for junior fashion.
Shirts, for example, feature plaid as the new trend for favorite stores such as Delias, Old Navy, Forever 21, and the list could go on. Very light material, somewhat airy for that wonderful spring breeze, this trend has really been popular since the skater kids took it over a couple of years ago, from stores like Pac Sun or the beach preps such as American Eagle and Abercrombie and Fitch. Me, I’d rather go for the classic 70s look of the punk tartan skirt, which still appears to be a popular fashion trend today.
A familiar style for the ladies, but with a twist: Sweater Dresses
Something that I have yet to actually catch onto is the current trend of sweater dresses.
They are usually slouchy, tight-fitting, or very professional fitting. Depends on who wears them, really and that is a huge factor. I tend to wonder how in the world they can keep anyone warm. But the common trend that goes along with these dresses, as seen in some of the pictures shown above, is tights. I’m under the assumption that tights are supposed to keep your legs warm, however, with the current way that these tights are worn (meaning they are too tight for anyone to actually move in), I would beg to differ.
However, if worn correctly, this trend may actually be something that could indeed be very stylish and pleasant. Considering that I’m too tall for my height and have boobs, it would probably be best for me to stay out of them.
A trend that will never go out of style: Boots
No matter how many different types of boots there are, and who wears them, this type of shoe is one that will never go out of style. To ankle boots, calf, knee and even thigh, boots are a popular and very comfortable thing to wear during anytime of the year. Preferably, the fall or winter is the best time to wear boots. My favorite at the moment are calf or knee high boots.
One thing that you can wear with just about anything is boots. Even the strange looking sweater dresses are perfect with boots, which are shown in some of the pictures above.
Black seems to be the classic but popular trend at the moment, but brown is slowly becoming just as evident. They’re good for anything, really. Snow, hiking, walking around town, kicking ass. Anything!
So that’s my take on the idea of some of the current fashion trends around right now. I plan for my next post about the topic to be where to find the greatest styles, but at cheap and reasonable prices.
