Thoughts: The Public & Political Views on Women

April 26th, 2012 § Leave a Comment

I was checking out Facebook this morning for work, just reading a few status posts on close friends. On the right side of the page, I caught sight of an advertisement by P&G (Procter and Gamble) titled “Best Job.” It was geared towards mothers. It was a pretty touching video about how mothers support their children through their lives. At the end of the video, there was this quote: “The hardest job in the world, is the best job in the world.”

Now, while I do agree that being a mother is indeed quite hard, why the need to make a dramatic commercial out of it? At first I thought it could be for Mother’s Day (which is May 13th). But what bothered me the most was the statement  made at the end, “the hardest job in the world.”

As touching as this video was, considering that I have a mother that has and still does support me in every way possible, I am not pleased with the fact that a major corporation that makes billions is profiting off the overblown media attention of mothers having “the hardest job.” Based off a statement that Hilary Rosen made towards Ann Romney, the wife of the now Republican Front Runner Mitt Romney, who was a stay at home mom. Keep in mind, she was a pretty well-off stay at home mom to start with. Not everyone has that option.

Don’t get me wrong, they do work hard. They put a lot of patience and emotion into what they do, especially some single mothers. But this is completely overshadowing the major concerns of not only mothers, but women overall. There is a large disapproval and a continuing battle against women’s health issues, birthing options, family funding for the poor or under paid women (some, who DO indeed go and work while raising 1- 5 kids whether it’s with their significant other, spouse, while single, what have you), some who want to improve their lives and by not only working but going to school so that they can support their children even more. Some who do need the aid of funding like welfare for a period before they can get back on their feet. Ok, they may not have made good decisions in life (or maybe they did, based on your own personal viewpoints), but they shouldn’t be chastised in any way, shape or form because of it.

But then you have a bunch of majority congressional individuals who believe that women shouldn’t have the right nor privilege to such things, whether it be through their employer or any other source. They have the nerve to throw religion into this ordeal, as well as insulting the intelligence and decision-making process of women into the argument and people go along with it blindly. People listen and believe the media because some of them do not have the common sense to check all sources and facts first. Some of them do not take the time to see behind this over dramatized criticism. Instead, they ignore the real issues, the major concerns that the general public should be focused on such as health care, poverty rates, the attack against educational systems, the treatment of veterans and military, the economic crisis. Dear God, I could go on.

What is this country coming to? What will the state of this country be in a decade when all we concern ourselves with are petty political games, commercialized dealings towards one political party over another and focusing the public’s eye on irrelevant issues or feeding them lies?

So while major companies, such as P&G, go and make really expensive commercials on a opinionated remark that one woman made about another woman to keep this irrelevant trite going for weeks, we still have the same problems circling in congress now, while they debate and argue over issues like a bunch of angst-filled teenagers. Instead of the childish crap, give me logical facts and reasons as to why things should be approved or objected. Not this emotional, religious and falsified bullshit.

That’s all I’m asking for as a citizen. That’s all I’m asking for as a woman. That’s all I’m asking for as a human being.

Thoughts: Steve Jobs Passes

I know its been a while guys, but I just could not post something on this.

I’m truly shocked and saddened by this news. This creator changed my view on technology overall, shifted me from the PC world to that of Mac and gave me the hope that indeed, the advancement of technology would grow in the right direction. The man was always looking to improve, provide and seek out new ways of pushing the limits and boundaries that technology would sometimes create. Instead of thinking “What can we do next?” his view seemed to be “What can’t we do next?”

Hate him or love him, the man was a genius.

The world has lost a great innovator, independent thinker, and giver. A modern Renaissance Man.

(In case no one knew, I typed this on my very first Macbo0k Pro thought I bought back in 2007, when I was first introduced to the world of Apple).

Happy Holidays!!

Returns

That's right. I'm Back. Finally...

Wow….

Yeah, I know. Whoosh….. And I appear out of the blue after a…. who knows hiatus!

Look, my life got pretty busy and I’m not saying that as an excuse. It really did. I’m not going to explain all of it cause its not important.

……Nah, I’ll do it anyway.

-Graduated college with a Bachelor’s in Cultural Anthropology (YAY! 4 and a half years for a piece of paper and debt! Wonderful American Society).

-Moved into my own apartment in October (Nice to have the solitude and freedom, yet annoying to have to pay for ALL of my bills).

-Working Full-time for GE Capital (Only bad thing, 2nd shift. Eh, better than not having a job).

-Operating a social group for the local area (Well, when you’re in the age range of 21-30+, there’s really not much to do in Dayton, OH. Seriously. Unless you are in college….)

But I’m back. Hoping to keep updating like I should be. Its sad, really. I should’ve seriously kept up with this.

Status update!

Apologizes for the lack of updates!

I’ve been very busy with school and other personal situations that I just haven’t been able to finish up drafts of things that I want to post.

And its hard to keep up with all the news, trends, music, concerts and movies that keep coming out.

But don’t worry. Hopefully I’ll be getting a break pretty soon to get back into the swing of things.

I will return soon enough.

Where Am I?
